Sadly, Boston's 150 year old Flower Show has been cancelled, as announced on the Massachusetts Horticulture Society (MHS)'s website. The good news is The Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show, Feb. 19-22, 2009 at the RI Convention Center, has been fortunate enough to fill the gap for many of the Boston flower show vendors and landscape artists.
“While the traditional Boston flower show will not take place, flower and garden enthusiasts can still get their first taste of spring here in Providence,” said Maury Ryan, director of the RI Spring Flower & Garden Show. This year's theme, “Gardens of the World,” will transport visitors to more than 30 exotic gardens representing all corners of the globe.
The Show's 250 marketplace vendors will feature something for everybody. Best selling author/photographer and lecturer, Ken Druse, frequent NY Times contributor, is among the many prominent speakers.
Discounted tickets are being offered to Rhode Island, American, and Massachusetts Horticultural Society members just by showing membership cards at the ticket window. Advanced tickets are available by calling Karen Brol, Ticket Manager, at 401.253.0246. For all show information visit www.flowershow.com. Call Amtrak at 1.800.USA.RAIL to inquire about a 20% Visit Rhode Island discount for reservations and easy walking distance to the Show.
Providence is offering value packages for horticulture lovers attending the event. Participants can choose from a variety of options including overnight packages with lunch or dinner, admission packages with meal add-ons as well as event tickets packaging with transportation included from park-and-ride locations in Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts.
